One of the benefits of GSM is the simplicity of making calls. Whatever country you are in, and whichever network you are using, you will always make your calls in the same way, following standard dialing procedures.
International calls and the “+ key”
Normally, before you make an international call from anywhere, you need to know the appropriate “International Direct Dial” code (IDD) for the country that you are calling from. With GSM however, this is not necessary because most GSM phones have a special “+ key” feature that will automatically insert the correct IDD code appropriate to your current location. Please refer to your handset’s user guide for details of how to make use of this handy feature. If your handset does not support this “+ key” feature, or you prefer not to use it, then you may enter
the IDD code manually instead.
Country codes
You will, of course, need to know the Country Code of the country that you wish to call, please visit our Country Code page.
Area codes
The area codes in many countries begin with a “0”. In most cases, this "0" should be omitted when calling these countries internationally.
Local calls
Local and National calls can be made by using the standard international dialing procedure, using the "+ key" and the Country Code. This is advantageous as it means you can store your favorite numbers in your phone book in the full international format, and they will work from wherever you are. They will even work when you are in the same country as the person you are calling. For your added convenience most networks also allow you to make local and national calls by using just the local area code and phone number. There is no cost difference between these two dialing methods.
