6. The Voicemail Service

The Voicemail service allows your callers to leave you a voicemail message if you are unavailable to answer their call.

- You will be alerted to their waiting Voicemail message by a text message to your phone.
- You listen to their message by calling your "Voicemail Retrieval Number"

What will it Cost?

There are no subscription charges for the Voicemail service, however there are charges made each time a message is left for you (a “message deposit”), and each time you call to retrieve a message (a “message retrieval”).

The amount you are charged varies, depending on the Country in which you are using your phone at the time;

- Message Deposit = the cost of an incoming call + the cost of a call to the UK.
- Message Retrieval = the cost of a call to the UK.
- There is no charge for the text message alerts.

If you do not intend to use the phone for prolonged periods – between trips abroad for example - you are strongly advised to turn off your Voicemail service. This will avoid the chance of you incurring costly message deposit charges whilst your phone is switched off.

It is important that you understand and accept these charges before you decide to activate the service.

Activating the Voicemail Service

  • Call +447802090100 from the cell phone.
This call is charged at the "Calls to the UK" rate.
  • Listen to the recording.
  • Depending on your location, you may be asked to confirm your cell phone number.
  • Note down your "Voicemail Retrieval Number" when it is read to you.
  • End the call.

Storing your Voicemail Retrieval Number into your phone

For your convenience you are advised to store your Voicemail Retrieval Number into your phone’s “Voice mailbox number” store (Typically in the “Messages” menu – see your phone’s user guide for more details).

Remember to store the number in the correct international format, using “+” instead of 00, so that you will be able to call it from wherever you go.(i.e. + 44 7XXX XXXXXX). (You normally enter the + symbol by pressing the * key twice in quick succession – see your phone’s user guide for details).

Turning off your Voicemail Service

You can only turn off the Voicemail service by making a call from the mobile. Obviously the mobile must be active on a GSM network in order to make this call, so it is important that you remember to do this before you leave the GSM coverage area.

To turn off your Voicemail service;
- Press # # 0 0 2 # (Send), or select the "Cancel all diverts" option from your phone’s menu.
- Wait for the confirmation message “Diverts Cancelled” on the screen.

If you wish to check that Voicemail has de-activated correctly, simply call your own number and check that you are not forwarded to your voicemail greeting.

How to use the Voicemail Service

If you wish to use the GSM Voicemail service, you must first activate it.
See "Activating the Voicemail Service" for details and advice.

Incoming calls

If you are unable to answer an incoming call for any reason, your caller will be forwarded to the voicemail service, where they will hear a greeting inviting them to leave a voicemail message for you.
There is a pre-set standard greeting, but you may choose to record your own personal greeting if you prefer.
The voicemail system is capable of storing up to 40 four-minute messages, and it will store messages for at least 30 days.

New message notification

You will be alerted that a Voicemail message has been left for you by the receipt of a text message.

The text message will read as follows...

02 Voicemail.
You have 1 New
Message.

Remember to delete these messages, or your "Inbox" will soon become full.

How to listen to your Voicemail messages

  • Call your Voicemail Retrieval Number
  • As soon as you start to hear the recorded greeting, Press the * key.
This will interrupt the greeting, and you will be prompted to enter your Voicemail PIN Code.
  • Enter your Voicemail PIN Code (3333)
  • Follow the prompts, or Press 2 to listen to your messages.
After each message you are prompted to either save or delete the message; Unless you specifically wish to save it for some reason, you are advised to always press the 3 key to delete the message – this will help keep your voicemailbox clear for receiving more messages.
