Singapore-based Tiger Airways has revealed more details of its new low-cost venture, destined for Australia.
The carrier has announced that Melbourne will be the base of the Australian operations, and although no start-up date or flight schedules have been announced the airline is banking on carrying two million passengers in its first year.
Dismissing critics who may question the likelihood of a third domestic airline succeeding in the Australian market, chief executive Tony Davis said: "We have a fantastic model.
"We have a fantastic shareholder group, who have a lot of experience both in the low-cost sector and in the traditional airline model, and we have a management team that’s well used to competing effectively.
"We’ve done it very successfully in Singapore. You can certainly ask our friends at Jetstar how their performance has been in Singapore versus Tiger’s."
Tiger Airlines started flying in September 2004 and have since then expanded at among one of the fastest rates seen in the airline industry.

British Airways has announced the introduction of its new print-at-home boarding pass.
The service, which allows passengers to print their boarding pass at home or at the office before arriving at the airport, is being offered to those flying from the Middle East to London Heathrow.
Provided such passengers only have carry-on luggage they can then avoid the often lengthy check-in queues, instead heading straight to duty free areas or a relaxing lounge.
The move is likely to be appreciated by passengers but it is not the first time the airline has taken its cue from budget carriers, something which could prove a point for concern.
Earlier this year the airline introduced a baggage check-in fee of £60 each way for every bag after the first free one.
Amanda Ball, service delivery manager for BA said however: "Our customers are always at the core of our innovation and developments, and with the launch of the online boarding pass across selected routes, we are making travelling from the region even easier."

A new short-haul budget airline has been announced in the States, with single fares starting at $10 before tax.
Skybus is the latest airline to start up in what has been a difficult market to crack in the US, but aims to bring to the US what Ryanair has done for Europe - cheap flights; no thrills.
Despite similar ventures such as People Express and Laker Airways both running into severe financial difficulties Skybus believe they have the right ideas to avoid such problems.
A $160 million cushion is also hoped to avoid mistakes from reoccurring in Skybus’ camp.
In keeping with the manner in which it will transport passengers, the airline’s online information and press contact comes across as upfront and frank, although also at times rather witty.
Referring to the strictly web-based ticket purchasing option, the airlines website insists: "Don’t call us; we don’t have a phone number."
And explaining the service on offer, Bill Diffenderffer, Skybus’ chief executive said, "we want to give exactly what the customer wants, and nothing more."
Current Skybus destinations are Columbus to Burbank (LA); Portsmouth (Boston); Bellingham (Seattle); Kansas City; Richmond; Fort Lauderdale; and Greensboro.
In June, flights are planned to Oakland, California.

Virgin Atlantic has today revealed plans to ensure they are one of Europe’s most environmentally friendly airlines, with new planes to help cut emissions.
The airline has announced the purchase 15 new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, the latest in Boeing’s famous 787 range.
The planes will emit only 73 per cent of that emitted by the airline’s previous fleet of Airbus A340-300s, saving thousands of tonnes of CO2 every year.
As well as environmental features, the Dreamliners will also produce 60 per cent less noise when in use, and so further benefit communities local to airports.
Commenting on the announcement, Virgin Atlantic chairman, Sir Richard Branson, said: "Virgin Atlantic is totally focused on delivering a cleaner airline in the air and on the ground, and our order today will significantly cut carbon emissions per 787 Dreamliner flight.
"The 787 Dreamliner symbolises the environmentally-kinder aircraft of the future – cleaner, quieter, lighter and truly the best experience in the air."
The news comes just weeks after Ryanair claim they will be flying across the Atlantic for just £7 in two years from now.
It is not thought the Ryanair flights will be quite so environmentally friendly.
